Kindertransport is the poignant story of nine-year old Eva Schlesinger who, in 1939 along with 10,000 other Jewish children was evacuated from Nazi Germany as part of the Kindertransport rescue movement.

Taken in and raised by an English woman, Lil Miller, Eva is torn between her German heritage and her desire to wipe the Kindetrtransport experience from her memory. Over forty years later, her daughter Faith discovers some old letters in the attic and Evelyn, as she now calls herself, is confronted with her hidden past.

"Samuels has written the best play about the pain and passion of mother/daughter relationships." Lynn Gardner, The Guardian

...an extraordinarily skilful and compassionate piece which hauntingly juxtaposes past and present to show the effects of the Holocaust on one family through three generations.." Charles Spencer, The Daily Telegraph

"....her play has pride, pity, no sentimentality whatever, and the true intelligence of humility." John Peter, The Sunday Times

The Directors of Kindertransport, Ros & Michael Berg have connections with many of the 10,000 Kindertransport children. One of them, their neighbour Liesl, talked to the cast about her own experience which mirrored that of Eva, the girl in the play. It was a very moving account and gave us all a deeper understanding of the text. The stories here have direct links to GST, making this a very special show.
