On the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death, what better play to stage in our own magical wood than A Midsummer Night's Dream?

Since this is GST's family show, we aim to broaden the appeal of A Midsummer Night's Dream to include younger audience members, and we are looking to cast an ensemble of actors of all ages (7 to 107) in speaking and non-speaking roles.

With a total cast of around 30, some key roles will be taken by adult actors, and some by younger actors. No firm decisions will be made ahead of the audition about how the parts will be distributed, so come along to try out for characters magical, mechanical and mortal.

We will have a chorus of mischief-making, merry-making, music-making faeries, to be played by children. Some will also have words to speak.

The audition will involve some movement, some simple noise making with percussion instruments, some acting Shakespeare (individually and in groups) and some improvisation. No preparation is necessary, although familiarity with the play will be very useful. Scripts and other materials will be provided at the audition.
Performing in the Wood requires plenty of energy and a big voice. These qualities - more than the ability to speak Shakespeare beautifully at this stage - will give auditionees a good chance of success.

These are open auditions. Please read the auditions page if you have never auditioned with the GST before.

Audition Pieces:

We are not publishing audition pieces - feel free to contact us for more information

The audition will be a workshop. The director will watch actors work on a range of exercises, in groups and individually, on and off the text. There will be no performances of learnt passages, so we are not publishing audition pieces. Familiarity with the play will be useful in the audition.
Please contact us at if you want any more information or a copy of the script for reading.
Rehearsals begin on 17th April and take place on Sunday afternoons 2:30 to 5:30. Older children and adults will also rehearse on a Tuesday or a Thursday evening. Younger actors with key roles will occasionally be called on a weekday evening. Rehearsals will be held at St. Margaret's Church Hall initially, moving to Little Oak Wood as soon as light and weather permit. From the week beginning 20th June, the full cast will be called on Tuesday evening and Thursday evening (7.30-9.30pm) as well as on Sunday.

Please note that, though you do not have to join the GST to audition, all actors in a GST show are required to be members.

The participation fee for a junior member is £35. This includes a free ticket to the show for one parent.
