'Life is beautiful, the girls are beautiful, even the orchestra is beautiful.'

Welcome to the Kit Kat Klub, a seedy Berlin establishment, where the Master of Ceremonies oversees the action and that flower of England, Sally Bowles, performs her cabaret act. Outside, life is very different as the shadow of oppression deepens and darkens in 1930s Germany. Into this world of decadence and Nazis comes a young American writer - what he finds will more than fill the pages of his next novel. For marvellous songs, dynamic characters and biting social comment ... come to the Cabaret!

Cabaret is a musical and all roles need to both sing and dance to a greater or lesser extent. You do not have to be professionally trained for either but you do need to be able to carry a tune and not have two left feet.

If you are interested in auditioning, please prepare a short monologue of your choice, ideally something which is related to the show itself. This must be no more than 2 minutes in length. You do not need to learn this by heart, unless you'd like to.

Carrie (musical director) will teach you a song from the show and Emma (choreography) a short dance. If you can familiarise yourself with the characters and musical numbers in advance, that would be an advantage.

These are open auditions. Please read the auditions page if you have never auditioned with the GST before.

Roles:

  • The Emcee(Male/Female, any age) - Master of Ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub. At times puckish, at others deeply sinister.
  • Sally Bowles(Female, 18-40) - The headlining British singer at the Kit Kat Klub. Flirtatious, naive and full of affectation, but much more vulnerable than she would have others believe.
  • Clifford Bradshaw(Male, 20-40) - An American writer travelling through Berlin. Sincere, self-deprecating and conscientious. Wide-eyed and nostalgic at times.
  • Fräulein Schneider(Female, 40-70) - an older woman who runs the boarding house that Cliff and Sally live in. A terrible businesswoman with a warm heart.
  • Herr Schultz(Male, 40-70) - a Jewish fruit seller who falls in love with Fräulein Schneider. Witty, funny and tragically romantic.
  • Ernst Ludwig(Male, 20-40) A German who befriends Cliff when he arrives in Berlin, later revealed to be a Nazi. Initially charming, always loud and eventually menacing.
  • Fräulein Kost(Female, 18-30) - A prostitute who rents in Fräulein Schneider's boarding house. Impish and commanding.
  • Kit Kat Girls/Ensemble(Male/Female, 16*-60) We are also looking for an ensemble of 6-10 to play the Kit Kat Girls/Sailors/Soldiers and various other parts. The Kit Kat Girls are tawdry. The Sailors are sleazy. The Soldiers becoming more and more threatening as the show goes on. *Year 12 and above.
